Just How Good Is The Ferrari 812 Superfast?

In this post we will answer questions such as “how good is the Ferrari 812 Superfast?” “where can I find a Ferrari 812 Superfast for sale?” and “what will be the Ferrari 812 price?” You will find a lot of other great info about this wonder car as well here, so buckle up for a fast ride.

Ferrari is saying that the 812 Superfast will replace the classic F12 model. “This is sacrilege” you say, but hold on a moment before you judge too quickly. Yes the F12 was one of the greatest sports cars ever to have rear wheel drive and a front engine. But read this Ferrari 812 Superfast review and see what they have in store as a replacement.

More Power than the F12 and attention to detail

The first thing to note about the 812 Superfast is that it creates 60 hp more than the F12. The F12 produced 730 bhp and the 812 produces an amazing 789 bhp. The Ferrari 812 Superfast is a 12 cylinder front engine coupe that will propel you from 0 – 60 in around 2.8 seconds. If you wait for 7.9 seconds to elapse then you will be travelling at 124 mph. There is a 211 mph top speed.

You will be pleased to know that the 812 Superfast is a revamp of the incredible F12 Berlinetta. What have been improved are the details such as the engine, the aerodynamics and the chassis. The idea here was to take the everyday functionality of the Berlinetta and combine it with the blistering track capabilities of the F12 TDF.

The engine in the 812 Superfast is now 6.5 liters from the previous F12 6.2 liters. An increase in the stroke achieved this. The pistons, connecting rods and crankshaft are all new. The new strengthened block around the main bearings is also a plus.

These engine modifications are fine, but Ferrari really wanted to improve the performance by enhancing the efficiency of the breathing, making a reduction in the friction and ensuring that the car has optimum combustion.

A redesign of the cylinder heads includes intake and exhaust valves of larger diameter with redesigned runners. Reprofiling of the camshafts means that they are able to push the inlet valves further into the combustion chamber and keep them held open for longer.

The introduction of a new high pressure fuel system is a first for a street worthy car. The fuel system can operate to a maximum of 5,076 psi, and this changes the way that fuel is pulsed into the combustion chamber so that performance and emissions are both improved.

Sophisticated electronics control the constantly variable intake runner system and this utilizes engine oil pressure so that the intake runners length is right for optimum torque and power. The sophisticated electronics are a direct result of the F1 experience that the Ferrari engineers have.

How does the Ferrari 812 Superfast drive?

This car really purrs down the road when you are only using part throttle. Even if you are down at 1,000 rpm the car will pull away cleanly. The transmission is a dual clutch system and by the time you reach 35 mph you will be in seventh gear.

But the real excitement comes as you build on the revs. There is an impressive swathe of torque at the mid range, and the throttle response is excellent at the higher revs. You will need to seriously hold on once you reach 6,000 rpm. You will experience an incredible thrust as the motor races towards the red line.

Transmission changed to handle the power and other refinements

The 812 Superfast has a better response and more power than the F12 and to handle this, the dual clutch transmission now has gear ratios that are shorter. The times for upshift and downshift are 30% faster than on the F12.

Electric power steering is a feature of the 812 Superfast and it is the first time that Ferrari has used this on a road car. The electric power steering works in conjunction with the rear wheel steering system and the traction and stability systems, to make the whole thing feel calmer.

The 812 Superfast is more agile than the F12. It now has larger front tires which provide enhanced grip of the road. Steering is all four wheels and this improves the handling especially in those tight corners. The improved damper and spring setup makes travelling over rough terrain a lot more comfortable.

What will be the Ferrari 812 price?

They have not gone public with the Ferrari 812 price yet, but those “in the know” estimate that most of the Ferrari 812 Superfast models will cost in excess of $400,000. Yes that is a sizeable chunk of change, but you are getting a sizeable high performance sports car for your money.
